What is a Duct Leakage Test? Are Federal Tax Credits available for Home Owners? YES! - For each dollar spent on qualified energy improvements, the federal government will provide a 30 cent tax credit. There is a cap of $1,500 in total tax credit per year on some energy improvements while others – including geothermal, solar water heating, photovoltaic systems, and small wind energy systems – do not have a cap. See the DOE Energy Star website www.energystar.gov for more details.
Are Federal Tax Deductions available for Businesses? What is the difference between a Tax Credit and a Tax Deduction? A tax Crredit is a direction reduction in the tax paid to the government whereas a tax deduction is a reduction in the taxable income level of the individual or business. What is Green Endeavors Service area? Green Endeavors services the entire 530 area code – from the Oregon border to the north to Lake Tahoe in the south and from the Trinity Mountains to the west to the Nevada border to the east. This includes Alpine, Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glen, Humboldt, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo, and Yuba counties. What are the Benefits of an Energy Audit? The benefits of an energy audit are three fold – less expensive to operate the building, better indoor air quality, and less impact on the environment. By reducing the air infiltration into the building and air leakage from ductwork, choosing efficient appliances and equipment, and using water wisely, the dollars spent for the resources used is reduced. The positive side-effect of a more air tight building is that the pollution from outside the occupied space – crawlspaces, attics, and outside – doesn’t enter the occupied space which creates a much better living environment for the occupants of the building. And reducing the amount of resources used by the building and its occupants reduces the impact the depletion of those resources has on the environment we all rely upon. Some examples are listed below:
What is Title 24? Title 24 is the generic name used to describe the set of building, health, and life safety codes that set the minimum requirements for buildings construction in the state. They include the energy codes which dictate the minimum energy efficiency of buildings as well as the tests and procedures for verification that the minimum standards have been met. What is a Blower Door Test? The blower door test is a procedure used to measure the air infiltration into and out of a building. It involves pressurizing the building using a fan in a doorway so that the leaking areas can be located and sealed. The typical house looses the entire volume of air within the house every hour. What is a Duct Leakage Test? A duct leakage test is a procedure used to verify how much air leaks from the ducts of a building. It involves hooking a fan up to the duct system to pressurize the duct system in order to measure leakage. The state mandates renovations have a maximum leakage of 15% and new construction have a maximum leakage of 6%. The typical house’s ductwork leaks upwards of 30% of the conditioned air supplied to it. |
